The new trans-Neptunian planet (image enlarged 30 times) discovered by Lowell Observatory, January 1930, and was named Pluto in March of that year. At right, the star Delta Geminorum (halo caused by reflection off the plate). Photographed by George Van Biesbroeck at Yerkes Observatory with the 24-inch reflector telescope.
